Postcrossing meeting Middelburg (the Netherlands) 24.09.2011

Voor enkelen onder jullie denken, 'hey, ik heb al een post gelezen over deze meeting', dit is de tweede meeting in Middelburg dit jaar! En natuurlijk was het fijn om nieuwe en 'oude' gezichten (terug) te zien.
Deze keer begon de meeting om 11u. wat betekende dat ik de trein van 8u. 's morgens moest nemen om er op tijd te zijn.
12 vrouwen kwamen samen om samen een leuke dag door te brengen en kaartjes te shoppen. Na een uurtje gingen we naar het 'Zeeuws Museum' om te lunchen, we namen onze tijd om adressenboekjes in te vullen, foto's te nemen en te bespreken waar we nog naartoe zouden gaan.
We hebben ongeveer dezelfde winkels bezocht als de vorige keer, met dit verschil dat we bij onze laatste 'kaart stop', we ook gebruik hebben gemaakt van het café in de boekenwinkel. Tijd om kaartjes te schrijven! Terwijl we aan het schrijven waren, dook er een student van de muziekacademie op en begon piano te spelen, dus we kregen een gratis concert bovenop.
Toen de kaartjes geschreven waren, namen we afscheid van twee mede-postcrossers en hadden een half uurtje over voor het avondeten. Dat brachten we door in een winkeltje vol prullaria, ik was zo blij dat ik niet meer geld bij had en daar dus niks kon kopen. Ik heb zo veel mooie schattige spulletjes gezien... Eten, in hetzelfde Italiaanse restaurant als de vorige keer. Deze keer kreeg iedereen wat ze besteld had, maar toen we een laatste koffie of thee wilden, ging de machine stuk! I had geluk en kreeg toch nog mijn koffie, maar enkelen van ons moesten een 'koud' drankje in de plaats bestellen.
Voor we het goed en wel beseften was het tijd om naar huis te gaan. De overblijvers van onze groep trokken naar het station, we lieten Telenn al wuivend achter op het perron om 20.22u. Het was 11 uur 's avonds toen ik thuis kwam na een geweldige dag.

Before some of you think, ‘hey, I already read a post about this meeting’, this is the second meeting in Middelburg this year! And of course I had a lot of fun seeing new and ‘old’ faces again.

This time the meeting started at 11 a.m. which meant I had to take the train at 8 o’clock in the morning to get there on time.

12 women gathered to spend a nice day together while shopping for cards. After an hour we all went for lunch at the ‘Zeeuws Museum’, we took our time to fill in address books, take pictures and discuss where we would go next.

We visited more or less the same shops as the first time, with this difference that at our last ‘card stop’, we also took advantage of the café in the bookstore. Time to write cards! While we were writing, a student from the music academy turned up and started playing the piano, so we got a free concert on top.

When the cards were written, we said goodbye to two of our fellow postcrossers and had half an hour left before it was time for dinner. We spent it at a shop full of little knickknacks, I was so happy I didn’t bring any more money and therefore couldn’t buy anything there. I saw so many cute things…. Dinner, at the same Italian restaurant as last time. This time we all got what we ordered to eat, but when we wanted to have a last coffee or tea, the machine broke! I was lucky and still got my coffee, but some of us had to order a ‘cold’ drink instead.

Before we knew, it was time to go home. Those of us who were left went to the station, we left Telenn waving on the platform at 20.22h. It was 11 in the evening when I got home after a great day.   

Castle

Chihkan Tower

 Chihkan Tower is the landmark of Tainan and its most famous historic site. In 1653 the Dutch built "Fort Providentia" in this area, and the Chinese named it "Tower of Savages" or "Tower of Red-haired Barbarians". Chihkan Tower is its official name today.

Even though Chihkan Tower has survived different historical periods it retains its rich and graceful architectural aspects. Crammed with various kinds of steles, stone horses, weight lifting rocks, stone weights, and nine stone tortoises carrying royal stele carved in both Chinese and Manchurian, the courtyard looks like an outdoor museum. Chihkan Tower is particularly attractive at night.  

Anping Old Fort

In the early 17th century, European seafarers came to Asia to trade and develop colonial outposts. In 1624 the Dutch occupied today's Anping and took ten years to build a fort named "Fort Zeelandia".

After 1662, because Kowinga and his son lived here, it was named "King Castle", "Anping Castle" as well as "Taiwan Castle". The Japanese rebuilt it and named it "Anping Old Fort".

Today, the only Dutch remains are the ruins of a semicircular bulwark and a section of the outer fort's brick wall: the root of an old banyan tree on the wall remains a witness to the fort's long history.

Rab is een eiland en een stad vlak voor de kust van Kroatië in de Adriatische Zee. Het eiland is rijk aan cultureel erfgoed en cultuur-historische monumenten.
