Pen-friends

Deze mooie juweeltjes en boekenlegger heb ik gekregen van een penvriendin. Ze heeft alles zelf gemaakt. Ik ben fan!

Lucky winner

Ik doe regelmatig mee met de lotterijen op het Postcrossing forum en tegenwoordig win ik wel eens. Deze speciale kerstzegels zijn pas aangekomen. Ik denk dat vooral postzegelverzamelaars hier de waarde van zien. Om eerlijk te zijn, ik vind ze gewoon mooi.

I participate regularly at lotteries on the Postcrossing forum and lately I win now and then. These special Christmas stamps arrived a few days ago. I think that the stamp collectors among us can see the value of them. To be honest, I just think they’re pretty.

Postcard I made

Deze postkaart heb ik zelf gemaakt met allemaal postzegels. Je ziet, zelfs een saaie postzegel kan mooi zijn.

I made this postcard with lots of stamps. You can see for yourself, even boring stamps can be pretty.

Bookmark

Tegenwoordig maak ik mijn penvriendinnen blij (hoop ik toch) met mijn zelfgemaakte boekenleggers. Hoe maak ik die? Simpel, ik week alle postzegels van mijn ontvangen brieven en plak ze naast en over elkaar op een stuk stevig tekenpapier. Op de achterkant van de boekenlegger schrijf ik een mooie quote. Daarna gaat er kleefplastiek omheen en klaar.

These days I make my pen-friends happy (I hope) with my selfmade bookmarks. How do I make them? Easy, I remove all stamps from my received letters and stick them over and next to each other on a piece of drawingpaper. On the back of the bookmark I write a nice quote. After that I wrap adhesive film around it and I'm done.

Views from Taiwan

Deze kaartjes heb ik gekregen van mijn penvriendin uit Taiwan. De hoofdstad van Taiwan is Taipei.
Dit kleine stukje land heeft veel bezetters gekend, maar ik houd het kort, met enkel wat informatie over de bezetting door onze noorderburen.
De Nederlanders hebben 38 jaar lang (1624-1662) de macht gehad over het westelijke deel van het eiland. Fort Zeelandia, gebouwd door de Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, diende om het territorium te verdedigen. In 1662 werden de Nederlanders verslagen door de Chinese troepen van Zuidelijk Fujian en van het eiland verbannen.

I got these cards from my pen-friend from Taiwan. The capital of Taiwan is Taipei.
This little piece of land has know a lot of conquerors, but I'll keep it short, with only some information about the occupation by 'my' neighbours up north.
The Dutch ruled for 38 years (1624-1662) over the western part of the isle. Fort Zeelandia was build by the Verenigde Oostindishe Compagnie for the defence of the territoriy. In 1662, Chinese naval and troop forces of Southern Fujian defeated the Dutch and expelled the Dutch government and military from the island.

Difficult

Deze kaart kreeg ik als 'official' op Postcrossing. Aan de ene kant ben ik erg blij met deze kaart, de prent is in een stijl die ik mooi vind en ik houd van rozen, plus ik wist niet dat Portland (USA) de rozen stad is. Maar aan de andere kant ben ik ook erg teleurgesteld, het is een reclame kaart. Op de achterkant is eigenlijk geen plaats gelaten om iets te schrijven, dus de afzender heeft met grote letters iets over de reclame heen gekalkt.

I received this card as an 'official' on Postcrossing. I have mixed feelings with this card, I love the style of the picture en I love roses, plus I didn't know that Portland is considered as the 'rose city'. On the other hand I'm also very disappointed, this is an ad card. On the backside there is no space left to write something, so the sender scribbled something in very big letters over the ad on the back.

Postcard friends

Deze kaart komt van een postkaart vriendin uit Japan/US. Ik snap het zelf niet helemaal, maar ze heeft een Japans en een US adres. Ik ben enorm geïnteresseerd in de Japanse cultuur dus ik vind deze kaart fantastisch. Het meisje op de kaart is een 'Maiko', een geisha in opleiding. Een maiko volgt een geisha naar haar afspraken om de klanten eerst te leren kennen. Wanneer een maiko 20 jaar wordt kiest ze of ze stopt of een geisha wordt.

This card comes from a postcard friend from Japan/US. I don't really understand it, but she has a Japanese and a US address. I'm very interested in the Japanese culture, so I really love this card. The girl on the card is a 'Maiko', a geisha trainee.  A maiko girl accompanies a geisha on her appointments to get to know the customers at first. Usually, when a maiko becomes 20 years old, she decides whether she will quit or become a geisha.

Amazing!

Deze kaart komt uit China, maar is verzonden vanuit Maleisië. Wat een indrukwekkend beeld! Dit zou een zicht zijn van 'Moon Hill' 月亮山 (Yuèliàng Shān) of 'Moon Mountain', een heuvel met een natuurlijke boog op enkele kilometers van Yangshuo in de autonome regio Guangxi.

This card comes from China, but is sent from Malaysia. What a spectacular picture! It should be a view from 'Moon Hill' 月亮山 (Yuèliàng Shān) or 'Moon Mountain', a hill with a natural arch through it a few kilometers outside Yangshuo in southern China's Guangxi autonomous region.
